    Project Details

The Thomas A Becket School project was a commercial scaffolding initiative conducted by CNM Scaffolding for Cheesmur Building Contractors. The primary objective was to provide safe and secure scaffolding access to the school's roof to facilitate essential repair work. Situated at Thomas A Becket Infant School in Worthing, this eight-week project involved multiple complex scaffolding arrangements, designed to meet the school's specific structural and safety requirements. The scope included the complete supply, erection, hire, and dismantling of a tied independent scaffold system, designed to allow access to the school's roof. Key specifications involved setting up a fully boarded lift and three gable end scaffolds, including two 4-meter gable ends and one 2-meter gable end. An additional challenge required the scaffold to be erected through an existing Perspex roof, which necessitated careful planning and additional labor to transport tubing through the building to the rear of the property.

This project utilised our scaffolding design & calculations and commercial scaffolding services, delivered to our full range of industry accreditations and safety standards. The project was located in Worthing, one of our key service areas across the south coast.

    Project Challenges

One unique challenge was the requirement to erect the scaffold through a Perspex roof, which called for precise coordination and additional labor to carry materials through the building. CNM Scaffolding's team adapted by assigning extra labor to transport tubes and other materials through the property to reach the rear setup area, maintaining the integrity of the Perspex roof. Each scaffold access point was equipped with gated entrances, enhancing security and ensuring authorised entry only. Furthermore, the scaffold was designed with a 2+4 board configuration to optimize stability and load distribution. The project's execution involved meticulous planning, with application dates and task breakdowns established prior to beginning work on-site. By coordinating carefully with Cheesmur Building Contractors, CNM Scaffolding was able to meet specific timelines, despite the additional labour required to transport materials through the building due to the Perspex roof structure. This adaptability allowed CNM Scaffolding to uphold safety and quality standards, ensuring successful project completion within the eight-week timeframe.

    Health & Safety

Safety was a primary concern throughout the project. All upright standards were fitted with foam padding to prevent injuries, and gated entrances at scaffold access points restricted unauthorised access. Additionally, CNM Scaffolding ensured all ends were capped and relevant covers were applied, minimising the risk of accidental injury. The use of a tied independent scaffold provided a secure, stable platform for workers, while the 2+4 board setup ensured optimal stability on boarded lifts.
