The Skywaves development in Worthing is a modern new-build apartment block delivered for Hampshire Homes. C.N.M Scaffolding was appointed to provide a full scaffolding package to support the progressive construction and brickwork across the site. Our scope included the complete supply, erection, hire, and dismantling of scaffolding, tailored to meet the evolving demands of the build programme. External scaffolding was installed using a progressive independent system, comprising six fully boarded perimeter lifts complete with toe boards and brick guards. These lifts were raised in phases alongside the construction schedule, ensuring continuous, safe access for all trades working at height. Internally, tube-and-fitting birdcage scaffolds were installed across the ground, first, and second floors. These were specifically designed to support both access and loading requirements, with back-propping incorporated to maintain structural integrity throughout the works. Working in close collaboration with the main contractor, our team adapted scaffold configurations as the project progressed. This included accommodating external finishing works and ensuring seamless transitions between construction phases. Additional features such as loading bays, bin chutes, ladder access systems, and bespoke access solutions were integrated to enhance site efficiency and safety.
This project utilised our new build scaffolding and commercial scaffolding services, delivered to our full range of industry accreditations and safety standards. The project was located in Worthing, one of our key service areas across the south coast.
A key challenge on the Skywaves project was maintaining efficient scaffold progression in line with an active construction programme. As a new-build development, the structure evolved rapidly, requiring continuous adjustments to scaffold height, configuration, and access points. Coordinating internal and external scaffolding simultaneously added complexity, particularly when integrating birdcage scaffolds with external lift progressions. Ensuring safe load distribution through back-propping while maintaining accessibility for multiple trades required careful planning and precise execution. The project also demanded flexibility to accommodate finishing works, meaning scaffold adaptations had to be carried out without disrupting workflow or delaying the programme. Close coordination with the principal contractor ensured all changes were delivered efficiently and safely.
Health and safety remained a priority throughout the 20-week project. All scaffolding installations were fully compliant with industry standards and site-specific requirements. The system included fully boarded lifts with toe boards and brick guards to minimise risk, alongside clearly defined access points using ladder systems and designated loading areas. Regular inspections, tagging, and safety checks were carried out to maintain compliance at every stage. Internally, birdcage scaffolds were installed with back-propping to ensure stability under load, providing safe and reliable working platforms for all trades. Additional measures, including bin chutes and controlled loading bays, helped maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free site environment.
C.N.M Scaffolding successfully delivered a flexible and high-performance scaffolding solution for the Skywaves development in Worthing. By aligning closely with the construction programme and adapting to evolving site requirements, we ensured safe, efficient access for all trades throughout the project. The combination of progressive external scaffolding and robust internal birdcage systems allowed for seamless workflow across all stages of the build. Through strong communication, precise planning, and a commitment to safety, the project was completed efficiently, supporting the successful delivery of this high-quality residential development.
