Project Details

CNM Scaffolding was called to West Sussex County Hall in Chichester following significant storm damage caused by Storm Eunice. The storm had severely damaged the flat roof of the building, with the roofing felt completely ripped from the boards, resulting in interior flooding. CNM Scaffolding erected scaffolding to provide safe access to the roof, enabling repair contractors to carry out emergency remediation works. In addition to the flat roof emergency works, the scaffold was designed to facilitate window and dormer repairs across the building. The scope required careful planning to ensure access could be provided to the affected areas efficiently while minimising disruption to the functioning public building below.

This project utilised our commercial scaffolding and safe access scaffolding services, delivered to our full range of industry accreditations and safety standards. The project was located in Chichester, one of our key service areas across the south coast.

Project Challenges

Working at West Sussex County Hall, a busy and publicly accessible building, required CNM Scaffolding to carefully manage the impact on the surrounding area throughout the project. As works progressed across different sections of the roof and building elevations, areas were systematically sectioned off to protect members of the public below from any risk associated with the repair works above. The reactive nature of the project, driven by emergency storm damage, meant the scaffold had to be mobilised and installed quickly to prevent further interior water ingress and damage.

Public safety was the primary concern on this project given the building's accessible location and ongoing use during works. CNM Scaffolding systematically sectioned off working areas as the project progressed, ensuring the safety of the general public at all times. All scaffold structures were inspected regularly to maintain compliance throughout the duration of the works.
