    Project Details

CNM Scaffolding was appointed to supply, erect, hire, and strike access scaffolding to enable safe access across all facades of the Co-Op Bassett Green for essential roof works, painting, and decorating. The scaffold design incorporated two working lifts across all elevations up to the underside of the eaves, with additional working platforms constructed over the lower pitched roofs on the north elevation. The structure was pedestrian-compliant and included debris netting where required, together with double boarding and polythene protection at footpaths and entrances to ensure safety. A bespoke element of the design involved bridging over external obstacles such as a chiller unit and the Amazon lock-up facility. Access was also provided to all elevations of the flat roof, with one working lift extending to the underside of the eaves. Scaffolding was erected to three chimneys to allow access to every elevation, enabling the flaunching and pots to be reached. Regular weekly inspections were carried out and reported directly to the main contractor, ensuring that the scaffold remained safe, secure, and fully compliant throughout the six-week hire period.

This project utilised our commercial scaffolding and edge protection & handrails services, delivered to our full range of industry accreditations and safety standards. The project was located in Southampton, one of our key service areas across the south coast.

    Project Challenges

This project required careful planning to accommodate both pedestrian areas and building features, particularly the external chiller and lock-up facility. Maintaining public safety around store entrances and exits while allowing the business to remain open demanded precise scheduling and robust protective measures.

    Health & Safety

Health and safety was central to the project. All scaffolding was erected in strict compliance with design specifications and industry regulations. Pedestrian safety measures, including debris netting, double boarding, and protective coverings, were installed wherever necessary. Weekly inspections provided assurance that the structure remained in optimum condition at every stage.
